feasibility study on eo/eg wastewater treatment using pilot scale sbr
Authors
abstract
the sequencing batch reactors were developed to treat the actual wastewater from ethyleneglycol/ethylene oxide producing industry. four identical reactors with total and effective liquid volumes of 9and 7 l were operated respectively in parallel. laboratory experiments were conducted with different organicloadings of 500, 1000, 1500 and 3000 g-cod/m3.day and the performance of the reactors was studied under different sludge ages of 10, 20 and 30 days, the kinetic constants at optimal operational conditions were also determined. according to the results, the efficient removal of cod was 79.5 and 83.5% (srt = 20 days) and 86% (srt = 30 days) for sbr 1 and 2 respectively (olr = 0.5 to 1 kg-cod/m3.day) with required reaction time of about 17 h. in order to reach the cod removal efficiencies over 86% at higher olr values, the researchers required longer reaction periods about 34.5 h for sbr 3 and 4. however, the srt values have no significant effects on the performance of sbr 1 and 2 at the aeration times greater than 22.5 h while in the case of reactors 3 and 4, with an increase on srt at all aeration times, the cod removal efficiency increased. it is concluded that the system used in the present study could show an acceptable stability and performance in the treatment of the wastewater containing high concentrations of organic matters especially from eo/eg industries.

full textTreatment of Dairy Wastewater Using Pilot Scale Tricking Filter
A pilot scale trickling filter and secondary sedimentation are used to evaluate the feasibility of this process for the treatment of raw dairy waste. The BOD in the raw waste of 252 to 1200 mg/l is reduced 50-73% by a single stage and a further 17-55% by sedimentation tank. Treatment efficiencies are determined at various waste strengths and influent flow rates. With a loading rate of 5-12 kg B...
full textTreatment of small scale gold mining wastewater using pilot-scale sedimentation and Cocopeat filter bed system
The use of amalgamation process to recover gold from mined ores by the small-scale gold miners in the Philippines and other developing countries produces and dispose of untreated wastewater to the receiving water bodies. In this study, a field-scale filter bed system was constructed to treat heavy metal metal-laden wastewater collected from small-scale gold mining site in Paracale, Camarines No...
full textSBR ) Offer an Efficient Wastewater Treatment
This paper describes the scientific principles of Darcy’s law and hydraulic resistance as they relate to the in-ground dispersal of onsite wastewater effluent. A clear understanding of how water moves into the ground via dispersal trenches is needed to facilitate proper system design and effect some standardization of dispersal trench sizing and design. Hydraulic conductivity of the media, hydr...
full textPilot scale study on a new membrane bioreactor hybrid system in municipal wastewater treatment.
A pilot scale membrane bioreactor hybrid system (MBR-HS) was evaluated for municipal wastewater treatment. This novel system comprised of a granular activated carbon-sponge fluidized bed bioreactor (GACS-FBBR) followed by a submerge membrane bioreactor (MBR) with the capacity of 2 L/min. The results indicated that the MBR-HS could effectively remove 90% DOC and 95% NH₄-N. PO₄-P removal efficien...
full textQualitative Trends for Situation Assessment in SBR Wastewater Treatment Process
A Sequencing Batch Reactor (SBR) is a wastewater process that occurs in a unique basin working with a predefined cycle. The reactor is monitored by the pH, Oxidation Reduction Potential, Dissolved Oxygen and Temperature sensors. This work proposes a qualitative representation of process variables based on episodes for ORP and pH signals to determine the complete denitrification and nitrificatio...
